Scanography (single scan and borders)

8x10

4x6

For this image I arranged a few leaves on the scanner and then placed my notebook on the top of the leaves. In photoshop I added a sponge filter to the leaves. I then added a new layer and placed a white box on top with some space on the edges. I then used the rectangular selection tool and deleted the inner part of the box. I then reduced the opacity to the desired effect. This was the image I chose to print.

Scanography (multiple scans)

This was pretty fun, even though I am not the best at this! I scanned each of these things separately with a scanner with a pink piece of paper on top and then combined them using masks and the paintbrush. I added an inch of canvas on all sides and then used the white paint brush with a thick heavy brush and painted the border around it. I then added the text.

Fine Art Template

2. Mudcracks: 05.29.2010; 1:00 p.m.; Utah; f 7.1; 1/1600; Sony DSC-W 120

I made this template by creating a new white template. I then used the rectangular tool and made a black square. I then copied that square and then brought up the free transform tool. I then moved it into position and pressed enter. I then held shift-option-cmd-t until I had five squares. I then aligned all of the squares so they would be centered on the page. I added the "KSS Photography" and then used a scanned image of my signature. I then added my own picture on top and sized it to the right size. I then linked the two parts and volia! It put my picture behind. I then moved them around to where I wanted them.

Photolusion

1. Hold on for dear life!: I created this by combining the two pictures below. In the light post picture I changed the curves slightly to enhance the clouds. I then selected the light post using the the quick selection tool and then changes the brightness, because the pole got darker when I changed the curves. With the picture of my roommate hugging the exercise ball, I selected the part I wanted to use in the other picture using the lasso and quick selection tool. I then moved that part over to the other picture. I made her smaller and made her hugging the light post. I then thought it looked pretty bland so I added the text and then vignette. For the vignette I created a new layer, filled it with black and then used the rectangular tool and used a 20px feathering and then deleted that portion. I then noticed some of the green from the ball was on the picture so I added a mask and masked out the slightly green parts.

This assignment was pretty fun. The last picture I took on my way home from my geology field trip. I saw it and thought that is looked like the mountain was a volcano because of the way the clouds were positioned.

Border Effects

Tree branch unedited: I didn't do any edits to the actual picture. I added a new layer and filled it with black. I then used the rectangular marquee tool and added 100 px feathering. I then deleted that and decreased the opacity slightly to get my finished product.

Romney edited: I created a new layer and then filled it with black paint. I then used the rectangular marquee and deleted the part I wanted. I then added stoke to the border and decreased the opacity of the border to show more of the picture.

Garden Bench edited: First I added the sponge filter. I then Added a new layer and filled it with white and then put the picture on top of the white layer. I added a black layer mask to hide the whole picture and then loaded the thick and heavy brushes. I used the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th brush with white to bring back the picture. I then played with each of the brushes to reach the desired effect.

This was fun to edit these photos. My favorite was the brushed on effect. It was fun to be able to make a photo look like it was painted on the page. I also like the effect the burned border adds to pictures.

Tilted stairs: 06.12.2010; 12:30 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 1.3s; 1/100; Sony DSC-W 120
After I pressed the shutter I moved my camera in a circle to get this lighting effect.

Time flies: 06.12.2010; 12:27 a.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 2.0; Sony DSC-W 120
I moved my camera slowly upward after I released the shutter button

Light line: 06.11.2010; 10 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 2.0; Sony DSC-W 120
I took this by Pressing the shutter button, and while pointing at the bright stadium lights I moved my camera around.

This assignment was pretty fun. I didn't do any edits to these pictures because I liked the way they were already. My camera is just a point and shoot but by changing the mode I was able to get a longer shutter speed. I wish I could have had access to a camera with larger settings, but these pictures turned out pretty well.
