2. Fixing Dino Bones: 05.27.2010; 2 p.m.; Lehi, UT; f 4.5; 1/30; Sony DSC-W 120

3. "I can hear the bells:" 05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/1000; Sony DSC-W 120

4. Ashley: 05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 1/160; Sony DSC-W 120

5. Roomies: 05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/125; Sony DSC-W 120

These pictures were pretty fun to take. I adjusted the levels on number 1,3, and 4. I changed the saturation on number 2 and then used a mask to bring back the chairs and the man working. I then cropped the image. I wanted to show the time differences between the old dinosaur age, and the man working to uncover it now. Number 2 was taken at the Dinosaur Museum at thanksgiving point. The guy in the picture is working on a dinosaur bone that will be put together later. We got a behind the scenes tour which was really fun.

Portrait Enhancements

4. Color Replacement edited: I selected the bow and the red part of her shirt. I then went under image, adjustments and then selected the color from her bow. I then played with the sats and lightness and hue to get a green color. I cropped the picture slightly. I then selected Ashley and put a gaussian blur in the background. I then used a mask to get the desired affect around Ashley and the background.

5. Color Replacement unedited: 05.23.2010; 8 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 1/40; Sony DSC-W 120

6. Courtney edited: I first changed the levels slightly. I whitened her teeth by selected her teeth with the quick selection tool and lasso. I then opened the saturation tool. I changed the master control to yellows. I took down the saturation and then brought up the lightness.

7. Courtney unedited:05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/160; Sony DSC-W 120

1. Michelle and Ashley edited: I adjusted the levels slightly and then went to image, adjustments, and then match color. I increased the luminance and color intensity, and decreased the fade.

2. Michelle and Ashley Unedited: 05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/100; Sony DSC-W 120

3. Roommates (match color): 05.23.2010; 5 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/125; Sony DSC-W 120

These edits were pretty fun. My favorite was the replacement color. It was cool to be able to change a color of one person to another color. The Match color one didn't turn out too great, because Michelle and Ashley have bad lighting on their faces. I like that fact that I now know how to whiten a person's teeth, even though there wasn't too much whitening I had to do in this picture.

HDR editing

1. HDR Warehouse: I used the free trial of Dynamic photo for the HDR affect. I changed the filter light and used the Halo matrix portion. I then adjusted the brightness, color saturation, and dramatic light radius. I also changed the surface smoothness. I used the full button and left the filter on color. I added a soft vignette, and then edited the image size in photo bee.

2. Old Warehouse: 05.21.2010; 11 a.m.; Dubois, ID; f 8.0; 1/160; Sony DSC-H50

3. HDR Out the Doctor's Window: I used the free trial of Dynamic photo for the HDR affect. I changed the filter light and used the eye catching method. I then adjusted the brightness, color saturation, and dramatic light radius. I played with several options on match color and decided to leave it the same. I used the color filter and then changed the dramatic light radius.

4. Out the Doctor's Window dark: 05.21.2010; 1 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 5.6; 1/320; Sony DSC-H50; Tripod; Timer; -2 Exposure compensation

5. Out the Doctor's Window Regular: 05.21.2010; 1 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 4.0; 1/200; Sony DSC-H50; Tripod; Timer

6. Out the Doctor's Window Light: 05.21.2010; 1 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 3.2; 1/60; Sony DSC-H50; Tripod; Timer; +2 Exposure compensation

I used a tripod to take these pictures. I manually change the exposure compensation to -2 and +2 to create a more drastic change. I also set a 2 second timer to prevent shaking. I really like using dynamic photo, as you can see it drastically changed the pictures.

Action blur and freeze

'

1. Jeri Jumps!: 05.21.2010; 4 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 6.3; 1/60; Sony DSC-H50

2. Ghost in Hotel Mead: 05.21.2010; 1 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 8.0; 10; Sony DSC-H50; tripod; timer

The shot of the blurred action wasn't too hard. Before Jeri jumped I focused my camera and then pressed all the way when she jumped. Taking the picture of a "ghost" was really hard and frustrating for me. It took so many tries to get it to look good. I had no idea what I was doing so was grateful for help from my group. In the ghost shot I used a tripod in a dark room. I set my shutter speed to 10 and then set the timer for 2 seconds so I wouldn't shake the camera. Sarah then sat on the window seal and then moved half-way through the shot creating the see-through effect.

Reverse Shallow depth

1. Old barrel: 05.21.2010; 3 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 2.8; 1/20; Sony DSC-H50

2. Inside Old Barrel: 05.21.2010; 3 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 3.2; 1/60; Sony DSC-H50

I really enjoyed taking these two pictures. I had a hard time focusing on the outside, but finally got a good shot. The second one is a little darker than the then first one. I wanted to take a picture of the different parts of the barrels in the gold refinery.

Macro/abstract

1. Old Piano edited: I used the CI#34 tutorial to create the image. I changed the foreground color to a brown color and then chose solid color, chose overlay blend mode and reduced the opacity. I then selected the green channel on the the cracked texture and moved it onto the piano picture. I reduced the opacity and then changed the mode to layer blend mode.

2. Old Piano: 05.21.2010; 12 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 4.5; 1/10; Sony DSC-H50

3. Cracked insulation: 05.21.2010; 11 p.m.; Dubois, ID; f 6.3; 1/500; Sony DSC-H50

4. Old door edited: I used the CI#34 tutorial to create the image. I changed the foreground color to a brown color and then chose solid color, chose overlay blend mode and reduced the opacity. I then selected the green channel on the the wood texture and moved it onto the old door picture. I reduced the opacity and then changed the mode to layer blend mode.

5. Old door: 05.21.2010; 4 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 2.8; 1/40; Sony DSC-H50

6. Old wood: 05.21.2010; 4 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 4.5; 1/250; Sony DSC-H50

In some ways I like the original picture better of these two. I do like how it makes these two photos look older. It was fun to see what I can create combining two different pictures. Photoshop makes pictures fun and different.

Portraits

1. Bre: 05.21.2010; 4 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 3.8; 1/8; Sony DSC-H50

2. Ryley: 05.21.2010; 4 p.m.; Bannack, Montana; f 2.7; 1/15; Sony DSC-H50

I really don't have a whole lot of experience taking portraits, but these two turned out ok. These two were taken in a house with some light blue walls. I added an adjustment layer to both and slightly adjusted the levels.

Panoramic

In the Garden: I used the photomerge tool in photoshop to combine all of the preceding photos together. I then flattened the image and then an adjustment layer to fix the levels. I then expanded the image canvas with black. After this I added the green stripe and the words, "In the Garden." The photomerge tool is Amazing!!!! I am grateful for it!!!

All pictures in panoramic: 05.15.2010; 8:40 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 1/13, 1/10, 1/20, 1/15; Sony DSC-W 120

This photo shoot was pretty fun, frustrating. I have never tried doing a panoramic picture before and didn't quite know what I was doing. The biggest hurdle I found was trying to find something to take a picture of. I tried several things, but ended up liking this one the best out of all the shots I tried. I was fun learning a new skill that I haven't done before.

Editing with RAW

Wheelbarrows JPEG edited with RAW: I opened this JPEG in RAW to edit. I increased the blacks. I then decreased the oranges and Reds. I increased the blues and purples to bring out the blue wheelbarrows. I decreased the exposure and the brightness. I also increased the saturation to bring out more earthy tones and decreased the balance. I then added a flexible vignette and decreased the opacity slightly.

Wheelbarrows unedited:04.23.2010; 6:30 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 7.1; 1/160; Sony DSC-W 120

I have never used editing with RAW and it was kind of fun to do something new, but I couldn't figure out how to go back a step if I needed to. RAW allowed me to bring out vibrant colors and it was amazing the capabilities I had in these settings. It is nice to know there are so many ways to do non-destructive editing.

Flexible Edits

1.Mountain Landscape Edited: I added an adjustment layer and chose levels. I then used the multiple blending mode and chosen screen to make the tree lighter. I did this a second time to make it even lighter. I then added a mask and brought back the original mountains, sky and grass.

2. Mountain Landscape Unedited: 05.08.2010; 8:20 p.m.; Layton, UT; f 2.8; 1/125; Sony DSC-W 120

3. Lamb in the Yard edited: First I cropped the image. Then I converted photo to Smart object. I then added a sponge filter. I used the paint brush to mask out the everything in the foreground, the tree and the lamb.

4. Lamb in the Yard unedited: 05.08.2010; 8 p.m.; Layton, UT; f 5.8; 1/125; Sony DSC-W 120

I had fun editing these photos. Being able to use these two tools is a great help. It makes things faster and easier. I actually played with several different filters for the Lamb photo. With the Smart filter it is easy to delete a filter if I want to change it.

Flora and Fauna

1. Blossom: 05.08.2010; 8 p.m.; Layton, UT; f 2.8; 1/40; Sony DSC-W 120

2. Honeysuckle: 05.08.2010; 8 p.m.; Layton, UT; f 2.8; 1/30; Sony DSC-W 120

3. Flower and Bee: 05.08.2010; 3:45 p.m.; South Weber, UT; f 7.1; 1/250; Sony DSC-W 120

4. Snowball: 05.08.2010; 8:30 p.m.; South Weber, UT; f 2.8; 1/30; Sony DSC-W 120

This assignment was one of the harder ones for me. It was easy to find plants, but when I found animals it was hard to keep them still long enough to take a picture. The levels on picture 2 were slightly changed, and I added a sharpening filter to picture 3. The other pictures had no changes made to them.

Blends and Type

1. Construction site edited: Montage achieved by using masks to blend construction site and construction pipes together. I used the quick selection tool to select the construction cone and added it to the montage. I then used the mask type tool on the parking lot texture and added bevel emboss, and stroke. I then added that to the montage, and then added the bottom text, " is everywhere."

2. Construction pipes: 04.23.2010; 7:30 a.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 1/40; Sony DSC-W120

3. Construction site: 05.03.2010; 4 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.8; 1/160; Sony DSC-W120

4. Construction Cone: 04.30.2010; 3 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 5.6; 1/250; Sony DSC-H50

5. Parking lot texture: 04.30.2010; 3 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 4.5; 1/500; Sony DSC-H50

6. Old House edited : Achieved antique grudge look by adding solid color with overlay blend mode. Then used the channel tab on the wall texture photo and used the Red channel and transferred it over on top of the House. Then I used the adjustment layer tab and changed the blend mode to hard light. I changed the opacity of this layer until I was satisfied with the end product. I then added a mask and edited out some of the edges.

7. Old House unedited: 04.30.2010; 3 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 4.5; 1/20; Sony DSC-H50

8. Wall texture unedited: 04.30.2010; 3 p.m.; Rexburg, ID; f 2.7; 1/1250; Sony DSC-H50

I enjoyed editing these photos this week. In pictures 2,3,4 and 7 I slightly changed the levels. Even though it looked like it was going to rain when I took most of these pictures, it managed to stay nice until I was done shooting. I have been feeling frustrated with all the construction around campus so I decided to take several shots and blend them together.
